I have tried getting this card to work (RTL8201 PHY) but no go.

I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the n-force drivers which should cover this board.

basically when running the installer for it, the installer says it was not able to complete installation of the module...

here is /var/log/nvidia-nvorce-installer

during installation i hit 'install everything' - the 7.977 gig package...
then i tried installing the ne2000 drivers or the stock rtl drivers. neither would let me activate the card.

You are trying to install nvidia nforce NIC driver, but your mobo is based on SIS chipset. In other words, you dont have nvidia NIC at all. The solution is (probably) to use sis900 driver - try loading it with "modprobe sis900" , and then do "ifconfig" to check status of network devices.
