Issues with attachments

I have a colleague that has created a database in lotus notes.  He is using XP and Office 2003, when I view the database I cannot see the attachment icon, I am able to open the attachment and detach it but I would like to be able to see the icon.

Is there any way of being able to do this?

attachment icon auto appears most of the time when you are in RTF field.

What you can do uis, go to File->Tools->Smarticon Settings

In that look for attach icon and drag to your right side box. Click OK. this will permanently sticks to the default icons.

sorry...looks to be a little bit of a miss-understanding.

i have the attachment icon you mention above that is not the issue.  the issue is i cannot see the attachment that is actually attached to mails or within a database??!! you can just see the description of what the attachment is.....no icon

is there any sort of link to open that attachment?

Check file associations in windows.
Notes uses the icon that is defined through file type associations to display when attaching a file.

For example, office documents are opened through some VB program here that launches the correct application from the network. When I attach an office document in notes, the icon of the VB program is displayed and not the icon of word, excel, ...

I changed the file type associations in windows and presto. I got the correct icons when attaching files.

WHat version of Notes do you have?  Older versions of Notes have some problems with XP.  Try installing a newer version of Notes, or use a different workstation.

Since the user never commented and told what version of Notes he was using, the answer by p_parth could be valid.
