"Procedure PacketGetAdapterNames failed. Error Code -6" error in Windows XP

Hey guys,

I am getting the error "Procedure PacketGetAdapterNames failed. Error Code -6" when I try to start network analyzer type programs like ethereal, airsnare, etc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled them (and winpcap 3.0)
but I still get the error. Does anyone know why I'm getting this and how to fix it? I'm guessing it's a SP2 issue, but I don't know how to correct it w/o uninstalling SP2.

Thanks,
Engellan

Engellan,

The procedure PacketGetAdapterNames appears to be in Winpcap.  There have been some updates since v3.0.  See:-

http://winpcap.polito.it/misc/changelog.htm

Version 3.1 beta2 had a bug fix for the procedure where, if it failed, it returned the wrong number of needed bytes for the input buffer.
