Rendering time for Live Type files are EXTREMELY long

Hi,
I would like to begin by saying that i have been a pc user my whole like but i own an apple for video editing, so the solution to this problem could be obvious.

i have an apple G5 with 2Gb of ram and 200Gigs of HD free. When i render a livetype file, it appears like it takes up all the ram or something becuase like a 10sec (non complex) file will take about an hour.

Here is the twist: when i create a new profile, the render time decreases greatly for about 2 renders, then the slowing begins.
It appears to me that there is a quota per username for temp. memory useage. Is this true and if so, where are the temp files that i can delete.

Maybe i am just off completely. thank you

There is no quote per user. You MAY have temp files that are old though. Run Cocktail from versiontracker.com and see if that clears up any cache files etc.

I ran cocktail and it did seem to help. is there anything else (i know this phrase sounds cliche) i can do to improve the efficiency? ( ie: on PC i would run a disk clean up to remove all temp and compressed files and stop any processes running that i didnt need)
