why do i have to click a different mailbox or exit outloook and go back in to see new mail coming in ?
pop doesnt do this .....why the heck does imap ?
is there a setting to tell it to just retrieve all new mail asap when sitting in the inbox ?

ive tried to set the send recieve but this doesnt work ?

i know its connecting to redhat 9 imap connection !

I guess the reason being IMAP synchronises with the server from which it is downloading. If you delete an email in outlook it has to synch witht the email in server

Have you recreated the imap email account to see if that helps.

aot2002,

Have you tested imap and outlook in a network outside the current network.
technically , imap should be faster as it download the header of the email and only the contents of the message that you read actually gets downloaded..

So in theory it shoud be faster than POP

Do you have any anti-virus software installed on your machine that might be checking emails as it comes thru ?
