imap and Easy question ...on incoming mail

why do i have to click a different mailbox or exit outloook and go back in to see new mail coming in ?
pop doesnt do this .....why the heck does imap ?
is there a setting to tell it to just retrieve all new mail asap when sitting in the inbox ?

ive tried to set the send recieve but this doesnt work ?

i know its connecting to redhat 9 imap connection !

I guess the reason being IMAP synchronises with the server from which it is downloading. If you delete an email in outlook it has to synch witht the email in server

Have you recreated the imap email account to see if that helps.

no its been an issue for me for a year i wish there was a way to sync every 2 minutes as im on a lan and thats irritating to click away from a folder then click in it again

aot2002,

Have you tested imap and outlook in a network outside the current network.
technically , imap should be faster as it download the header of the email and only the contents of the message that you read actually gets downloaded..

So in theory it shoud be faster than POP

Do you have any anti-virus software installed on your machine that might be checking emails as it comes thru ?

no antivirus checking emails
i do this server side.....


im not sure what your implying ?
I know how imap works verses pop why would you tell me this ?

i just want to know how to sync it without moving into a different mailbox or folder to force a sync !

Hmm. I wish I have an imap account to do the testing. I never heard this issue before. will work on it to see if I can come up with a soluition

its not the first imap ive run into which has done it .....

i havent seen an imap which doesnt do it !
