From my own implementation, i've had it setup to not allow any user interaction and dowload + install the update on fixed time. I don't know about removing the task bar icon but I do know that using the options in WU gpo conf, you will be able to remove user's ability to click and install the updates.<br />

Use the option number 4 (Auto Download and schedule install) in the Configure Automatic update option of WU gpo conf. That will take away the ability to click on the world icon and install the updates.<br />
