Read receipts for meeting requests.

I have a user who sent out a meeting request to a number of users. He received read receipts from other users that weren't on the list.
I know that in Outlook that if you share the Calendar then by default it automatically forwards all meeting requests.
Why would he receive read receipts from users that were not on his meeting request list but not from others that were.
Any help would be appreciated

    I have resolved this now.
By default when you send a meeting request in Outlook2K it automatically requires a response.
What was happening UserA was send a request and User B was forwarding all meeting request whilst sharing their calendar. User C was then opening the requst and then closing it without responding. This then sent a read receipt to User A
