Viewstate encoding (algorithm behind it)

Hi folks:

Does any one of you know what is the encoding algorithm behind viewstate hidden field. I hope it is not proprietary. Can we do the same encoding by using System.Security.Cyrptography namespace. thanks in advance.

Actually Still I need to know how to decode it back. I asked the question about the algorithm behind it for which I got the answer. I have not tried encoding/decoding as of yet.
