I purchased Adobe Acrobat 6.0 recently and have been having the same problem over and over again. Just as the installer is about to install the software package from the CD-Rom I get the following Message -

Error 1606: Cannot access network location

and then something about "XLStart"

My OS is XP SP2, P4 w/ 1GB ram. 64MB VRAM.

This is the only software package that exhibits this problem for me...

Not sure about this version of Acrobat, but does it require some ports to be open or some freedom that the XP SP2 environment requires in terms of modifications?  Any errors in the Event logs?

I need some guidance from you on this bc I am not aware of what you refer to... the problem existed even before SP2 was installed however...

You may need to uninstall older versions and reinstall newer versions with updates.

What exactly is the error message? XLStart has something to do with MS Excel. Does this error happen before or after you select the type of installation (e.g. complete vs. custom)? If so, try to disable the installation of PDFMaker.

Also, make sure that no applications are running when you start the Acrobat installer.
