Doesn't matter which file, get error message?
Have removed and reload 3 times, not helping, and this is a Windows 98SE installation.

Has Reader 6.0.1 ever worked on this system, or did it crash from the time you installed it for the first time?

You can try the troubleshooting tips on this Adobe page (unfortunately Adobe does no longer have this page available, so I'm linking the page from the Google cache): http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:ZlGtxW-xMfUJ:www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/31e12.htm

Never has worked.  You can open just the reader program with nothing in it, but as soon as you try to open a pdf file or as soon as you go try to update it will give you this error.

Here is some information for Windows ME, hopefully this is also applicable for Win98SE: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/325844.html
