    Not JavaScript. I used to it in desktop application. (VC++, VB, Delphi)

    if its in VC/VB then u need to look for specific values in registry
    For eg  for IE -
    Check for - HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer
    For version of the IE : Query value for "Version" under above key
