I tried to use Knoppix 3.2 to connect to Internet on my Toshiba Satellite 2800 laptop. When using KPPP to cfg my modem, I had tried /dev/ttyS0 to S3, but the msg when I queried the modem was always: modem is busy.

Any idea? should I change some modem commands?

Your modem is a winmod - you need a special driver. See www.linmodems.org

A good point. But the problem is how it can be installed on a CD operating system?

I remember successfully detecting once on desktop linked to external modem. But my laptop has no serial port.

If I use a cable convertor to convert USB port to a serial port, will the usb modem plugged in appear as serial modem or usb modem?
