InDesign 2.0.2 crashes changing color swatches - spot to process

InDesign v. 2.0.2 installed with Windows 2000 (current SP level) starts behaving strangely and won't save, but can use 'save as'; but sometimes crashes after color swatches - spot to process - palette functions.  Checked Adobe site, found a patch for 2.0.2 and more here:

More to explore, but curious if you can help here to make the process quicker.

Thanks,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This is a complex 18 page package; recovered all but 2 which appear to be toast.  Any ideas how to recover a corrupted InDesign file?
