Flash MX 2004 Professional tool tips....

I have a Flash app that includes a map of the counties in my state and changes the colors based on values in the DB. You can look at it here:

http://oasis.state.ga.us/ and go to one of the arboviral pages.

I need to have a tool tips for this map that function like this:

http://www.cnn.com/interactive/allpolitics/0410/map.registration.turnout/content.html

except that I need to display statistics in a possible multi-line format.

I have been told that there are no tool tips for MX 2004 Professional but only for MX. Is this true and if not, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks Experts!

Thanks for the response. Two things:

1) Will it do multi-line text?
2) Does it work in Flash MX 2004 Professional? There ARE differences between MX and MX 2004 Professional.

Thanks,
Brad

Yes When you add the text part just make it a multiline instead of a single line inside the properties at the bottom.  That should do it.

And Yes it will work with MX 2004.  Just about everything works in mx2004 that was in MX but in they took out alot of the components to add new ones. But you can download the old ones and install those in to MX2004 also.  Other than that I havn't seen much difference.  Oh yeah they took out the beginner Action script editor and now only have the experts mode.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Points increased.

I need for it to be dynamic as well, in other words, when I pull the data in form the asp page tht calls the DB, I need the values to go into my "tool tip". I like the suggestion you gave, so no matter what you will get some or all of the points. But I am still a flash novice so I need a little more instruction on how to make this work dynamically.

Here is a third party component that works great in MX 2004. I picked it up last week and it does a nice job. It's fully dynamic and has control over a lot of properties. I know it costs money but it easily pays for itself in the time you don't spend creating your own tool tips.

I actually looked at those before. I didn't like the fact that it had those thought bubbles. Are those customizable too or is that just what you get for the price?

What do you mean "thought bubbles"?

by "thought bubbles" if you mean the little arrow that comes out of the box...I haven't tried removing them but I'm sure, as with all components, you could go in to the artwork and edit it or create a new one that doesn't have the arrow. You'd probably also need to edit it to do more than one line. As I play with it more it resizes the tool tip to accomodate 1 line at the moment.

Yes, the little arrows that come out from the box. :o)

As long as those can be edited and the tool tip can accommodate more than one line, then that could be a possibility. But I would need for it to be dynamic as well. In other words I need for it to be able to accept variables and display those as well.

Sorry I haven't got back to you. It has been crazy around here.

It is already dynamic.  How are you calling up each part of the database to receive each part as you rollover? Once you call up and recieve the information from the data base you just need to set that equal to this

_root.caption.words =  What ever value from data base.

If you can post how you are calling the database then I can show you a little better.

Well, right now I don't have anything being passed as yet. I am what you might call gearing up for the next version of the application because I know what they wanted in version 1 that we couldn't do at the time. Here is an example what I am getting and how:

Well I don't really see how you are going to get it to call different parts of the database once you do the roll over that is great for just calling up one value.  But you need something that will query the database differently for each part you rollover which I guess would require you calling up the query string in flash and setting that equal to the variable above each time you rollover a part.  this is the variable _root.caption.words  But I really don't know how to call the database from flash and query just a part.  Cause that really isn't my thing.  But I do know you can do it, but I think what you are trying to do is going about it the wrong way.  Let me do some research and see what I can find.  But If you have the points to give I would post another question in the flash area and see if someone knows how to do what you want exactly cause what negatve gave you answers that but doesn't really do what you want.

Ok this is what I was thinking about you doing but with the on(release) code inside the on (rollover).

http://www.codeproject.com/asp/flashasp.asp

This will call up a asp page and send a variable with it and then the it will query a part of the database and then send the info back to populate the field.
