I need to provide user a browse button.  When user clicks the browse button it allows him to select the Excel sheet and after that when user clicks the submit button on the webpage.  The content of the excel sheet has to be dumped into the oracle database.  I need this option to do a mass upload from a flat file to the oracle database.  The frontend we are using is coldfusion server.

    Accepted Solution

I would recomend the following procedure

    1. Upload the file to the server using the input type="file" and <form enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post">

    2. Once the file has been saved to the server then do 1 of two things

2a set the filename as a datasource and use cf to query the spreadsheet and dump into Oracle
2b use some sort of Data Transformation Package to dump the info into Oracle from excel (CF not involved here)
