windows xp boot hangs after installing winxp sp2

I have a motherboard ASUS P4P800 and installing winxp home works fine.
But after installing service pack 2 windows hangs while booting and showing the graphic windows screen.
Restarting in safe mode doesn't work.
Is there a problem with this MB?
Changing hard disk and/or memory doesn't solve the problem

Have you checked here for your Motherboard for potentially needed updated drivers or BIOS fixes?  One of my systems has that same MB, love it but did need to update my BIOS.  See if this applies to you.  Also turned off all Power Management at the BIOS level and disabled the BIOS level virus element.

Oh yes, also used the onboard Soundmax and had to install that updated driver also available from ASUS.
Hi 1PC

Please follow astaec's advise and upgrade your BIOS firmware to latest version, then all will be well with SP2...  ;)
(you will need to find correct firmware for your motherboard though, I counted 5 variations of the P4P800 on the ASUS web site)
