PRINTER BUILTINTO MULTIFUNCTION MACHINE

When you changed the paper orientation, did you adjust the sliders in the tray so they sit against the paper? These sliders tell the printer the paper size and orientation.

On the PC, what do you use for tray & paper selection? Do you use Autoselect or do you specify a specific tray or paper size?

take out the paper, check for any left debris, clean it and reload paper

YES I ADJUSTED TEH SLIDERS IN THE TRAY AND THEY ARE 100% SITTING AGAINST THE PAPER.THIS IS THE REASON THAT
THIS MACHINE IS WORKING FINE AS PHOTOCOPIER.
TRAY PAPER SELECTION IS "AUTOSELECT" .I 'M REALLY REALLY TRYING HARD TO SET IT AND IT WORTHS FOR ME TOO MUCH . YOU PLEASE HELP ME . I'LL BE GREATFUL TO YOU .

well, possibilities are : the paper detector blocked (thats why i suggested to : take out the paper, check for any left debris, clean it and reload paper; but the paper detector can be bad also.

Can you try the printer on another system, or with another printer cable?

Did you install any other software or upgrade recently?

You can try uninstalling / reinstalling the printer also; but my first option would be to look for the paper present detector, look in the paper tray, it can be a led +detector assembly that is blocked by paper debris. You can look in the manual where it is situated

NO THERE IS NOT ANY PROBLEM WITH THE SYSTEM, I WAS USING THE SAME PRINTER FROM 1 YEAR BUT IT WAS WORKING FINE. I JUST CHANGED THE ORIENTATION OF PAPERS INTO THE TRAYS . BEFORE IT WERE PLACED IN PORTRAIT ORIENTATION BUT I CHANGED THE ORIENTATION ,NOW IT'S IN LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION. IT IS WORKING FINE WITH PHOTOCOPIER BUT WHEN I TRY TO PRINT SOMETHING IT GIVES "LOAD PAPER" MESSAGE ON THE MULTIFUNCTION RICOH AFICIO 4160 FIERY E 300 MACHINE(PRINTER IS EMBEDDED IN IT).IF PAPER DETECTOR IS BAD THEN WHY IS IT WORKING WITH THE PHOTOCOPIER. I TRIED REINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE BUT EVEN IT DIDN'T WORK. THERE IS NO HELP ON THE INTERNET AND ON THE MANUAL
I'M REALLY RELYING UPON EXPERTS TO HAVE ANSWER OF THIS QUESTION .

Does the driver let you specify which way the paper is loaded in the tray i.e. the driver may be set to expect the paper loaded portrait; as the printer knows it's loaded the other way it needs to request paper the other way.

Check under Printer Properties > Device Settings or some similar tab

SO THE WE PUT PAPER INTO THE TRAY ,THERE ARE THREE DIFERENT OPTIONS, CURRENTLY LANDSCAPE IS OFF.
BUT TWO OTHER OPTIONS ARE LANDSCAPE AND LANDSCAPE ROTATED( BUT THESE TWO OPTIONS ARE BEING SHOWED INTO YELLOW,MEANS CONFILCT OR ERROR, THERE IS SOME ERROR)
PLEASE HELP ME

IF I TRY TO SET LANDSCAPE OPTOINS : AND TRY TO SELECT VALUE "LANDSCAPE" OR "LANDSCAPE 180" IT SAYS THERE ARE CONFLICTS. SHOULD SYSTEM RESOLVE IT OR YOU'LL RESOLVE IT.

Sorry, but I've been away for a couple of days.  It seems the printer is told to expect paper short edge first (SEF). Under Device Settings > Form to Tray Assignment, can you select other A4 settings, specifically something like A4 LEF (long edge first) or A4 Landscape?

I might add that the biggest problem with capital letters is that they make the text extremely hard to read. Mixed upper/lower case just flows so much easier!

and i'm extremely sorry for capital letters but really i didn't know about it that it's misbehaving. sorry for that.

yes i've set in user tools from portriat to landscape and it's working fine as copier.
and would you please tell me that why landscape settings is not applicable...?

i had set paper size to SEF A4 now.and i had disabled the advanced options as well as told by you.

after changing the settings it worked but now the final result is as follows.

it prints only first page(from one printing command) and doesn't prints others.
and then it gives message LOAD A4.
when you clear this message and try to print again ,it doesn't works. so you've to restart the machine. and after restarting it again prints only the first page and doesn't prints other pages and gives message LOAD A4.

i think we are near to solution. it will solve my problem

The driver has 2 settings, A4 and SEF A4 (the A4 setting assumes portrait)

No problem, I realised you didin`t know, was just trying to help.
If it is printing the first page only, try checking the page setup in word (or whatever application you are using), and make sure the paper size is applied to the whole document- I`ve seen this in powerpoint, where the user changed the paper size , but only applied the change to the first page.

Additionally, do you have the Fiery spooler utility available? hat might give you some more information.
If you don`t have it, it can be found on the driver cd, or downloaded from here:

There is no option named A4 LEF

what should be the page setup in word or anyother application but i didn't change the page setup(i'm talking about when i printed first page as well,means i don't know what was the page setup). and what should be the page setup...?but do we need to change page setup when printing and should it be landscape or portrait.and you said paper size should be applied to whole page. please tell me what settings should i give in paper size(i'd not given it before).

No i don't have the fiery spooler ,yes the link you gave i can download from it and should i install it now.?

my printer is now working ,i'm really thankful to you for your cooperation.
Yes i changed the settings in page setup and paper size,i set it to SEF A4.

but problem is that we have 2 printers 1 is fiery and 2nd is Hp and we are running internet cafe. solution is working but we've to change paper size to SEF A4 everytime we've to print . and there are many programms installed on client machines.
sometime clients have to print on black and white(HP) printer and sometime on FIERY(Color) printer. paper size on HP is A4.
so it's nearly impossible to change page setup everytime a customer prints and they are also not so technical that they can print .

what is the solution for this last problem

Thank you very very much for helping me and solving my problem but it's really not solved yet 100%. we have internet cafe here.
we have to change it to landscape because when we used to put it into portrait orientation,it used to jam most of the time.
problem is not we've to change HP to a4 landscape . problem is that every applicatoion like MS word, Ms Excel, Adobe photoshop, other all applications when we try to send print from these applications we've to change page setup from A4(by default) to A4 SEF. so once we close any application ,then open this application again, it's default would be A4. so manually changing it from A4 to A4 SEF is impossible becuase normally customers don't know how to do it .
and it's also impossible for us everytime we print change the paper size from page setup.
so can you please guide me in this regard

if it is jamming in portrait mode, there is something wrong with it, or it is being sent landscape print jobs.
often when people send a4 in landscape mode, if the copier thinks it is portrait, it jams. (the copier works out whether a page is jammed becuase it measures the time taken for it to travel through, if you send a4 landscape and it expects portrait, it will jam)
there are other reasons for jamming, but you need an engineer to tell you why.
If you set the page settings in the print driver(in the printer folder) it will be the default for that printer. also, if you load the normal.dot template for word, and save the print settings, they will be the default for word.
Unfortunately, printer settings in applications override print driver settings.
I work on these machines all the time, and the most common problem is user error, especially when using the bypass tray(the bypass has no paper size sensors)
If it jams on portrait copies, it  can be a variety of causes, but if it only jams on portrait prints, it is most certainly user error.

The cheapest way to solve this is to get a good copier/ printer engineer to call.
your arrangements may preclude this, but a direct complaint to Ricoh may help.
