MS word and HP printers

I have two network printers connected to my PC: HP LJ 5000 DTN and a HP LJ 42000 DTN, the former printer is set as my default printer.

I have a created a word template, set the page setup, Paper Source tab for the template as the following.

First Page : Tray 2
OtherPages: Tray 3.

I have created a new document using this template, when I have checked the Page Setup, Paper source tab the settings are as above. However, when I change the default printer to the HP LJ 42000 DTN, the page setup, Paper source settings are as follows.

First Page: tray 3
Other Pages : tray 4.

The printer does not have a tray 4 installed and the open word document has not been closed. Can you help?

Check the driver Properties under the Device Settings (or similar) tab to see which trays have been installed in the driver. You'll probably find the driver has been told that tray 4 is installed. Another thing to chech is what paper types have been loaded in the various trays. Word tries to "intelligently" match paper between different printers.

I have now resolved this problem, it is to do with the way that HP identify there paper trays.

For example tray 2 on a HPLJ 4050TN printer is identified as 259, but on a HP LJ 4200TN 259 is a Tray 3 (500 Sheet) tray. To get round this I have written a macro that sets the paper tray to the correct tray ID.

Don't you just love the way manufacturers strive to keep compatibility between their products?
