This is a simple hardware question. I just purchased a new Abit NF7 Motherboard and several other parts (3000+ cpu, 512 ram, ect..). I also have an old athlon xp 1600 cpu but I'm not sure if it works.

What I'd like to do is test whether this cpu works but all I have right now is the new motherboard. The rest of the parts are not do to arrive until sometime next week. So my question is, can I test my old cpu in the new motherboard with no ram to see if it turns on? Or will this damage the new motherboard and old cpu?

It should work - you will get beeps to indicate RAM problems, if your cpu works.  Your cpu is on the compatability list:

Well...the Athlon XP 1600 cpu came out of a broken computer.

I'm not sure if the motherboard went bad or the cpu or possibly both. I'm guessing it's just the motherboard since I get nothing when I turn it on. I put a new power suppy in, so I know it's not that. That's why I want to test this cpu.
A bad cpu is unlikely to damage a good motherboard, so you will be safe doing this.
