how to disable pc beep

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop (WinXP SP2) and, when I'm troubleshooting something in safe mode, whenever an error message pops up, I hear a beep. How can I disable that beep? The sound is of course disabled since I'm already in safe mode but how do I get rid of the PC beep?

Thanks.

Disable the System Beep

If you PC's internal speaker is making a noise and annoying you turn off the "System Beep"

1. Open device manager - Start >Run >devmgmt.msc {enter} OR Open control panel >system

2. Click View >Show hidden Devices.

3. Expand "Non Plug and Play Devices"

4. Double click "Beep"

5. On the Driver Tab set the "startup" type to "Disabled"

6. Reboot.
