Is anyone familiar with the CoreLab MySQL tools?  How do you use them to connect to a remote DB?

Need to be able to establish a connection, verify the connection with the root password embedded in the code of our VB.NET form, then read or compare some data in a table of a database.  Anyone have any quick ideas how to do this?
