IP Address Questions - Adelphia Cable Modem

Hi,

Have Adelphia cable modem service with a motorolla modem and a linksys router attached to the cable modem acting as the firewall. The linksys reports the following WAN IP Address information:

WAN IP:
     IP Address: 24.52.29.38
   Subnet Mask: 255.255.254.0
   Default Gateway: 24.52.28.1
   DNS: 68.168.96.130
68.168.96.133
68.168.96.130
   DHCP Remaining Time: 11:23:00

Adelphia claims that the modem has an IP Address something like 68.234.85.76. How is this possible if the first few numbers of the IP on the modem are not the same as the Linksys? 68.234.85.76 versus 24.52.29.38, even though they are on the same physical wire. Any help much appreciated.

The Modem can have an IP address that is totally different from your router WAN IP. It is used by the cable company to manage it. The modem has an IP, but it is in "bridge" mode where your 24.x.x.x passes right through to the gateway.
