Veritas Expert Needed: Advanced Open file VS Exchange Agent

I am using veritas backup exec 9.1 which is installed on my sql 2000 server and is backing up both sql and exchange. exchange in on another server running exchange 2003. i have both agents for sql and exchange installed on there corresponding servers. ok now for the question, i was told by veritas techs not to use the advanced open file option while using the exchange agent, but now not using the open file everytime i backup it tells me that it backed up with exceptions. Can I use the open file agent? while I was using the open file agent it never gave me that alert that it completed with exceptions.

Any help is appreciated

The open file agent should not be used on the exchange server. If you look at the logs, you will see the files are in |Winnt\system32 and are kernel - related and exchange services - related files. These can be unselected in your backup job if you wish to avoid the exceptions. If the files that are open are not Windows OS or Exchange related, then there is another application running on the server keeping the files open. Virus scanners and monitoring agents will do this too.

If you do a recovery, you will need to rebuild the OS, install the apps and install Exchange using "setup.exe /disasterrecovery". This will take care of the open files.
