Font Smoothing - LapTop - Windows XP Prof Special Pack 2

I've been going crazy lately trying to get the fonts in my web images to look sharp and not fuzzy  (I'm a web designer).

Never used to have as much trouble.

So I thought I'd check the display settings in my control panel - and font some problems.

using  "control panel - display - appearance - effects - font smoothing"

I click on effects - but get no reaction.   The button insn't greyed-out.  It just doesn't respond.

Did something change with Special Pack 2??  I'm on a Toshiba Lap top.

thanks, April
