MSSQLSERVER service won't start


I get a following error when trying to start the MSSQLSERVER

iit says

"The MSSQLSERVER Service on Local computer started and then stopped. some services stop autmatically if they have no work to do, for example, the performace logs and alerts service"

and when i open my SQL Server Enterprise Manager it says

A connection cound not be established to (LOCAL)

Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server Registration properties

Try running the service from the command prompt (" net start mssqlserver ") and see what the output is.

It may be a problem with the account the service is running under. Check in "Services" in the control panel to see what account the mssqlserver service is running under and make sure the login/password is correct.

that's what happened from command prompt.

The MSSQLSERVER service is starting..
The MSSQLSERVER service could not be started.

The service did not report an error.

and it is running using local system account....

check in the event log to see if sql reported reason for failure.
