Win2k doesn't recognize CD-RW or DVD-rom and troubleshoot only comes up with errorcode: 31

Last week Installed an upgrade to Nero 6.0 ultra. Now win2k doesn't see my drives.  I have tried everything i can think of.  I cant reinstall Nero 5.5 because my cdrom is not accessible, CD-rom is MSI and DVD is Maddog. I hope you can help this quarter is coming to a close and messing with this problem is not allowing me to get my homework done.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would like to thank you all for you effort in coming to my aid...unfortunatley, It was all for naught.
My system was so #@$@ that I ended up reformatting and all is well...with the exception of course of all the hours I lost putting time into fixing problems instead of doing homework..

Thanks again
