Recover Registry

How do you recover the registry of a Windows 2000 machine?  The hard drive is having problems, but I can still get to the files on it.  Is there a file that contains the registry information (I know there is, but which one is it)?  Thanks in advance.

You would have needed to completed a backup prior to your issues in order to restore a backed up copy of it. Here is a link on backing up the registery on NT 4 and 2000. Hope it helps.

I know that the data is stored in a file on the machine.  I have a Linux hack program that can read it, but I don't know where it's stored, or if it's encrypted, or anything like that.

The link below explains placement of the regestry hives; however, there is no feature utilizing AUTO registery backup, that I know of. If there is no auto backup being done, then the only copy of the registry you'll find is the faulty one if you haven't manually backed it up prior to your issue.

    That does really help.  Thanks.
