Upgrading DELL 530 to 2 GB RAM

I have a DELL Workstation PWS 530 with Xeon 1.8 GHz CPu and 512 RAM.

I have heard that I can purchase a board to put into this system and increase the RAM to 2 GB.

Trying to find out if this is good incormation; and if so, where can it be obtained.

To answer your original question, no, I don't think there are PCI memory add-on cards, and if there were, they would have have terrible performance going through the shared 33MHz PCI bus.

Go to dell.com and look for a "memory riser board". I believe this will give your system up to 8 ram slots.

I think you should be able install 2 gigs of ram without any add on boards, but you will have to replace the two ram chips you have installed already.

The maxium memory for DELL Workstation PWS 530 is 2GB, and 4GB with riser card.

In other words, you don't need buy any riser card for 2GB RAM. Just buy 4x512MB RDRAM (Rambus RAM).
