what is sptimer.mem

My boot drive on my windows 2003 web server is filling up.  A filed called sptimer.mem(3 gig) seems to be the culprit.  Can you tell what this is used for and do I need it?  If needed, can I relocate it to another drive?
thank you,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

a little investigation points me toward SharePoint Timer Service as the culprit of this file?
