CFFTP (or other custom tag) with an "Append" function

I need to do an ftp "append" and there doesn't seem to be that option in the cfftp tag (using CFMX6.1 btw), am I missing something, or is anyone using a custom component they can recommend? This is to replace a script I already have running on a Unix box within a web page all my logic, etc... is in place I just need a cf way to do an ftp append.

How about using cfexecute and just use ftp via the command line?

I thought about that, or even using ws_ftp (I use that in the windows scheduler for other stuff), but I need to be able to check for success/failure *immediately* kind of a thing (i.e. check the value of #CFFTP.Succeeded# )
