while that works, it shows the shortcut a 'Ctrl + Scroll Lock', and both ctrl+scoll lock and ctrl+break triggers the menuitem..
is there a way that i can make it show 'Ctrl + Break' as the shortcut?

I'm not sure... Interestingly, MapVirtualKey(VK_SCROLL, 0) and MapVirtualKey(VK_CANCEL, 0) returns the same result (70), which is why the key name is wrongly translated?

Does this then mean it cannot be done?

I do not know. Maybe you would like to post another question in EE and see if any other experts have encountered something similar and could provide a workaround.
