How to install a system state backup to a different physical server

Good Day,

How can I recover a system state backup from an ibm server to another IBM server? The server with the system state is a DC running Windows 2000 sp4.
Thanks,

Install Windows to the different physical server (if it's not already installed), then restore the system state.  (Be advised, if this isn't the same MODEL server, there's a definite chance the system won't boot).

In addition make sure you don't have the other server still on the network or you'll create SID/Security issues with "identical" systems (especially DCs) in the same network.

Just to add why you can't install on a different hardware type is because the system state restores the previous registry and hardware configuration.

Ok....do i install AD on the other server or not? The other server is on a separate VLAN called Test and there are no other DC's on the test VLAN.

If your doing a straight restore then no, it will set it up as it was.

So i'll install Windows 2000 server as a standalone server and then proceed with the system state restore and that is it?
