MAPISP32.EXE generating errors

Hello.

This is the problem that I am having.

My customer is running W2K and using Outlook 97.  Recently she began having the following problem.

Upon opening Outlook, when she tries to send/receive new mail, she gets the following error:

"MAPISP32.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.  You may need to restart the program."

Please help me resolve this.  Thanks.

Paul

Hi nsdhouston,

Have you tried to reinstall outlook and check if that would solve the issue.
once reinstalling , update it fully and check

Yes.  I did a re-install without first uninstalling Outlook 97.  I just installed over the exisiting files.  I have also tried SR-1, SR-2 ValuPak, and SR-2b but still no go.

What do you think?

what type of email account u have got ?

make a backup of your outlook and go to control panel > mail > show profiles
try to see if you can create a new profile
if you can , create one , login to that profile. create your email account and see if you can send and receive

She has an internet e-mail account, no Exchange.  I have also already tried rebuilding her profile but received the same error when I tried to send/receive under that one as well.

is there any new email stuck in ur Outbox ?

can you delete some unwanted emails from your sent items folder and then clear deleted items folder and then check if that would work

Somtimes it can happen because of this tool

There were 2 e-mails still in her outbox and I deleted those.  Nothing in the trash bin either.  Problem is still there.

I'm really at a loss here.  : )

nsdhouston,

have you gone through the MS KB link in my previous suggestion?

nsdhoustonAuthor Commented:
I have tried each of the suggestions that were applicable.  Some of them seemed to refer to a different version of Outlook or Windows.

Something else you might should know about this - when I attempt to close Outlook after I get the error message, the window will close but I still have to open task manager and terminate the outlook.exe process.

Also, I have tried replacing the MAPISP32.EXE file in my C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory from the Office 97 cd.  Still not working.

Any other ideas?

nsdhouston,

Try to repair PST and check
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm

what happens if you create a new PST and check in there

PST repair found no problem with .pst file.  I'm not sure how to create a new .pst file.  Can you tell me how.

Also, just for kicks I set my client up with Outlook Express and voila!  It works!  However, I still need to resolve the issue with Outlook.

Thanks.

Do you have any more suggestions in regards to the problem with Outlook?

If you rename the OUTLOOK.PST file (usually found in C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) it will create a new one when you start Outlook again.

Suggestion for sunray (and other technicians). Even when providing a link with the "correct answer" people are more apt to grant you points if you give them the answer. Here is how I do it (with a link provided).

"Do this to fix your problem"

Also we (actually I) need to understand that not all users give points the same way.
