Debian NFS server with Solaris 8 client.

Hello All,

I am planning on implementing a debian kernel-2.6.8 (Compiled with NFS V3) NFS with a Solaris 8 client . I wanted to know if there are any gotchas or caveats in such a configuration. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

NFS v3 is supported by Solaris 8.

However, there is a bug on kernel-2.6.8 for NFS which will generate Oops (Linux kernel error/crash) while accessing a mounted NFS filesystem. You need to upgrade to kernel-2.6.8.1 or above.

Thanks for your quick response Wesly. I am now upgrading to kernel-2.6.8.1 as you suggested. I'll let you know how I made out.

Hey,

Looks like I just hit a snag ... I am getting the error "Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,6)" .

Below is my config file . Note that I have CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDISK=y and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_GENERIC=y defined. I noticed that CONFIG_BLK_DEV_HD_IDE is not set
do you think this is causing the problem? If so where is this option set in `make menuconfig`?

Nevermind, I had to take out the Advanced Partition option.
Thanks.
