Clients Can't Download OAB

Whenever I use Outlook to try to download the offline address book via
tool -> send/recieve -> Download address book
i get teh following error...
Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F): 'The operation failed. An object could not be found'
I have tried to 'rebuild' the offline address book and then stop and start the Information Store service but this didn't do the trick.  I read about redoing the 'system folders'  Is that what I should try next, and what all is that going to screw up if I do do that?

Im running exchange server 2003 and most clients are using outlook 2003

THanks in advance!

Has Powershell sent you back into the Stone Age?

If managing Active Directory using Windows Powershell® is making you feel like you stepped back in time, you are not alone.  For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why.

I want to try to rebuild the "site folder" but i read this on microsofts site...

The Guidgen.exe tool randomly generates a GUID. You can use the GUID to rebuild a site folder by using the ADSI Edit tool. When you create a new site folder, the data that was previously contained in the original site folder is lost

What data will be lost??

At the beginning you will lose free/busy data, oab (which isn't working anyway), and Org Forms that were migrated from 5.5.  Free/Busy and OAB will regenerate, so the only thing to worry about is Org Forms, which can be saved to PST using outlook.

Before you try GUIDGen, try these things:

1.  Open the existing OAB and rebrowse for the offline address list folder, try rebuilding again afterwards.
2.  Open ADSIEdit.  Go to configuration, services, microsoft exchange, administrative groups.  Under administrative groups, right click and get properties on the administrative group.  Find the property called siteFolderServer.  Verify that this points to the DN of a valid public store.  If not, change it to reflect a valid pub and try rebuilding.

If none of this works, turn up diagnostics logging for MSExchangeSA\OAL Generation and rebuild.  Report any errors that appear in the application event log to us here.

I'm not quite sure how to verifty #2, i got to the spot for siteFolderServer that you spoke of but with all the CN='s in there I'm not sure how to verify if its a valid share or not, can you explain a little on how I would do that?

marc_nivensCommented:
That value is pointing to a path in Active Directory.  You can use ADSIEdit to find this object and verify it exists.  So for example, if the DN was this:

cn=myPub,cn=InformationStore,cn=myServer,cn=Servers,cn=AG,cn=Administrative Groups,cn=Org,cn=Microsoft Exchange,cn=configuration,dc=domain,dc=com

you would browse in ADSIEdit to:

configuration, microsoft exchange, org, administrative groups, ag, servers, myserver, informationstore.
The DN is structured from bottom to top, so just browse it by going from left to right.

If you're getting no errors then the OAB is generating.  The problem now is the client download.  Make sure autheticated users has read permissions on the OAB.  Also, see if the download works if you create a new profile.  Oh, one more question.  Is this affecting all users or just some?
