Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2005 won't update

I recently installed Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2005 on two computers (I have a multi-license version).  Both comptuters run Windows XP Home Edition and both have Service Pack 2 installed.  They're on a Linksys wireless network.  The laptop accesses the network and internet through a wireless adapter card.  PC-cillin virus file updates work perfectly on the laptop.  The desktop computer is connected to the Linksys router.  PC-Cillin deos not detect updates on the desktop computer and when I try to manually update the files, nothing happens.  I've tried to work out a solution with the Trend Micro support staff, but they only suggest that I uninstall and reinstall the program.  I've done this several times and the problem still exists.  Does anyone have a clue as to how to fix this problem?  Suggestions are appreciated!  Thanks.

Check any firewall settings on that PC, either those of the new, builtin firewall which comes with sp2 of win XP and is activated automatically, or another 3rd party FW you may have installed. Maybe there is a rule blocking the update of PCCillin.

When you say you have tried to manually update, what exactly do you mean by that? Are you downloading the definitions by hand, then trying to install the downloaded files on your PC? If that is the case and nothing happens, then you can probably ignore the first part of my answer. In this case it is more likely your PC has been infected by a virus or some other malware. These often keep antivirus programs from working properly. First remove pc-cillin, then use msconfig to remove everything from autostarting when booting your PC. Turn off "System Recovery" and reboot. Open msconfig again to make sure none of those progs have become active again, use taskmanager to kill any processes you don't know. Now try to install pc-cillin again and and run the update. If it works emmediately do a thorough search of your system and clean away any virae. If it didn't work, try repeating my instructions from safe-mode, with networking. If that still doesn't work, place your disk as a slave into a pc you are sure is virus clean and has an uptodate antivirus software intalled. Also make sure you have something like spybot search and destroy, also this uptodate, installed, and then do a thorough search of your slave drive. Once every bug has been cleaned from that drive put it back into the original box and try install pc-cillin, along with its updates again. I hope it works now!

Thank you for your help!  I did find malware that was the culprit.  I cleaned it up and now pc-cillin is updating again.
