Dell Dimension 8100 loses power intermittently

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 running windows 2K Pro and every so often it will just shut off and restart itself. I'm thinking it's the Power Supply but I don't want to go out and spend $40 on a new one if that's not the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Any error messages in your event viewer?

turn off automatically reboot to make sure you aren't getting stop errors:
right click on my computer and press properties, go to the advanced tab and click the settings button under the "startup and recovery section"...uncheck "automatically reboot" then press apply.   Run the system like this and see if it is bluescreening rather than rebooting.
good luck

You may want to check for viruses.  Some of them can cause your computer to reboot.  (ex. Sasser.B)
