Security

Hi,
I need to enforce stronger passwords than is available in windows server 2003 GP.
Specifically, I need to enforce a password that has all of the following:
1. uppercase letter
2. lowercase letter
3. number
4. special charactors....  !@#$%^&*(

The default domain policy only allows 3 of the 4, I need all four enforced.

Thanks, Donnie

There are two ways around that:
* Write your own passfilt.dll
* Use a third party tool like Password Policy Enforcer (which in addition will allow you to apply policies on group level instead of domain level only)

Thanks for reply. You put me on the right track and I found that creating password filter (windows server 2003) is done with SDK

I found this on technet then followed links to download SDK from msdn. Not sure if I like the idea of third party password filter.

You can create and register your own custom password filter if you want to modify the complexity requirements enforced in the security setting. For information about how to create a Passfilt.dll file, see "Password Filters" on the MSDN Web site.
