Parallel Computer to USB Printer

As crazy as this may sound, I have older friend that is still using WordPerfect 5.0 (too stubborn to upgrade).  Anyway, I recently bought a new printer for her, but it does not have a parallel port.  So, my question is how can I connect a USB printer to a Computer parallel port?  I have found plently of cables online that go from a printer parallel port to an USB computer port, but that is not what I need.  Any ideas?

I know that they say parallel port to usb, but it is still the incorrect adapter.  It is an adapter for a printer parallel port to a USB computer adapter.  I need an adapter for a printer USB port to a parallel computer port.

how about a usb card (pci)

then you  will have usb capabilities

The computer has USB capabilities, but WordPerfect 5.0 will not recognize the printer.  WordPerfect 5.0 is DOS-based; thus, I need the printer to hook up to the parallel port on the computer.

Ah, I understand now, lynksys makes a print server that I understand supports usb, but don't know if WP 5 would recognize that either. And I don't know of any way to redirect the output from lpt1 to usb (sort of reroute it)
and of course WP has to work with the drivers
someone else had the same problem

I'm afraid you may be out of luck, and have to return the printer and get one with a parallel interface

I disagree - that post is ambiguous....

I think it might be able to be done as follows (and probably more easily if I was a Microsoft guy, rather than a unix guy):

Install USB printer
Share USB printer on your computer (I'll call it "myprinter" shared on "mycomputer" for example)
Add:

net use LPT1 \\mycomputer\myprinter

to the wordperfect startup script (or make one if you don't have one)

Cheers,
-Jon
