Upgrading from win2k to win2k3

I have a client that wants to upgrade his win2k server to a win2k3 server and I have a few questions.

First, will upgrading preserve all the settings tha are currently in the win2k3 setting?

Second, on the off chance of something going wrong, are there any steps I can take to preserve / backup the win2k configuration for later restoration?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
