Abit NF7-S2 Motherboard and AMD XP 3200 CPU

I bought a Abit NF7-S2 Motherboard and AMD XP 3200+ (400) CPU but am having problems getting it to work.

When I go to turn it on I hear the fan running like it's powering up but nothing shows up on the screen and I don't hear the hard boot any further. I did try clearing my cmos and updating my bios to the latest version but that didn't work.

I then decided to pull out the 3200+ CPU and put my old AMD XP 1600+ CPU in to see if that works and it powered up fine.

I then proceeded to put back the 3200+ and got the same problem. I can't even get to my bios.

Is there a setting I'm missing? Or is the CPU that I just bought possibly bad?

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also running Mushkin 512mb pc-3200 DDR (400) ram in my computer (1 stick) and a WisperRock IV cpu fan for my cpu.

From A-bit website, the NF7-S2 motherboard supports only up to AMD Barton Athlon XP 3200+ (200):

In other words, the CPU you bought is not compatible with your motherboard.

Even though it says on this page: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=204

- Supports AMD-K7 Socket A 266/333/400MHz FSB Processor
- Supports AMD Sempron CPUs (Please update the latest BIOS version)

The 400MHz FSB doesn't apply to a AMD XP 3200+?

Well, the information on the a-bit website is quite confusing.
The AMD website says the recommanded Abit motherboard for AMD XP 3200+/400 is NF7-S (even older than NF7-S2).

By the way, AMD XP 3200+ only has FSB 400 on the AMD website.

My recently experience that the latest BIOS with cpu micro code upgrade will support higher speed CPUs.
However, Abit BIOS upgrade release not didn't mention what is the highest speed it supports.

What does it mention in motherboard mannual? Or you might want to call the Abit customer support to confirm
the compatibility or report the bug (then come out new BIOS upgrade).

The manual didn't say anything in particular about cpu types. In the past my old MB manuals would the CPU types it supported but this one doesn't. And neither does the web site. I just assumed that because the web site said it supports XP processor up to 400MHz fsb that I thought for sure it would support the CPU I just bought.

Man, this really sucks because I bought the cpu on ebay from someone in Hong Kong and I don't know if I can replace it.

From eBay! Check your friends who have the motherboard support AMD XP 3200+/400 to test your CPU first.
If it still not working, then contact the person ask for refund.
If CPU is ok, then call the Abit customer support for assistence.

Good luck,
