looking for examples for father-child-style program

I am going to write a program which should have the window style like the so-called father-children. Exactly to say, I start the program and there is just one father window. If I click the menuitem "child-window", a window will be put into this father window. I can put so many child-windows as I will. I can miximum or minimum each child-window, I can move each child-window inside the father-window anywhere, And if I click the menuitem "vertial" or "horisontal", all the child-windows will be ordered respectively.

I want to know what kind of JComponent should I use as the father-window and what for the child-window?

Better give me some examples.
