Watcom SQL 4.0 and Presto Pagemanager 4.2

Whenever I try to open Presto Pagemanager 4.2, Watcom SQL 4.0 opens and Presto freezes! I cannot access any files I had stored in Pagemanager which worked perfectly in the past. Have tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling. Running Spybot and CoolWeb luck! This has been a problem for some time. Could it be due to Norton Systemworks??? or some other conflict?

First thing to do is check whether it is a program that starts at boot which causes the problem.  In Windows 98/ME/XP, you can choose which programs are run at startup by using the Microsoft Configuration utility:  click on the Start button, choose Run, type in MSCONFIG (doesn't need to be all capitals), click OK.  Choose the Startup tab, deselect programs to run at startup by removing the check mark.  In Windows 9x/ME, you may need to disable just about everything except Explorer, ScanRegistry and SysTray.  In Windows XP, just click on the button for Disable All. Reboot and see if the problem goes away.  Then re-enable the startup programs one at a time, reboot, and when the problem occurs again, there is your culprit.

Many Thanks! I now have Presto up and running again...(most of the time!) Initially I thought the problem was due to my Norton Systemworks running in the background, as the Presto program froze again when I enabled the full Norton Package on Startup. However, having played about with it for a long time it seems erratic. Sometimes presto works with everything going on Startup, sometimes it freezes at Watcom SQL 4.0.and I have to 'End Program' before I can continue.
I have also managed to complete a long overdue Defrag using this deselect option of all background programs in MS Config. Recently it never went past 10% before restarting due to 'disk write'?!
