What is the best C Compiler I could use to program an AVR ATMEGA8535-16 Proccessor on an Active Micro Board. I am looking for a free or a very cheap compiler as i'm on a limited budget. I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

It seems that gcc recently added support for the ATMEL AVR-family of microcontrollers as you can see here: http://gcc.gnu.org/install/specific.html#avr
