Bootup problem: c0000021a/oxc 0000005

When booting up, get desktop background, but before any icons load, get the above message,  Will not allow a startup in Safe Mode (keeps going back to network login and cannot get past that).  Once login, then the whole problem reoccirs.

Thanks.

then you will have to take out the hard drive and have to hook it in another system as slave drive to backup data to the other system's hard drive.

OR if you have another partition on the same hard drive, then use a bootup cd like Bart's PE >> http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ OR Knoppix >> http://www.knoppix.org/ to boot the OS with one of them and then copy the data to the other partition and then format the system partition and reinstall XP on it :)

hmmmmm that is an unknown error, are you sure its the exact string you get upon login ??
you cannot login in GUI Safemode, can you try with Command Prompt to try a system restore to the time before this problem started ??

And if this also fails, then just perform a Repair install and it should correct the problem without deleting your data or program files :)

I tried all of these based upon prior posts.  The numbers in the questions are summaries of the System Failure notice that I get.

Any other ideas other than a full reinstall?

Thanks.

You mean you did a Repair install and still the same problem =\
How did this problem started ?? Did you add any hardware or software on the machine ?? Is GoBack installed on the machine ??

Yes, did repair install and same problem.

Apparently some pictures were downloaded this weekend which precipitated the problem.

Thanks.

Problem reads:

STOP: C 000021a {Fatal System Error}

The Windows process system logon process has been terminated unexpectedly with a status of F 0Xc0000005 (0x0000000 0x0000000).

The system has been shut down.

hmmmmm from where did you download them, from interent ?? i mean may be a virus infection was spread from them :-?
You still cannot boot in safemode even after the repair ?? Is this machine a standalone one or on network ??

belecad337Author Commented:
Unfortunately it boots to a network logon.  Must put in password, and once that is done, in either standard or safe mode, the above message comes up.

that's why im asking if its a standalone pc or connected in a networked system ??
or is this "network login" started appearing after this problem started ??

belecad337Author Commented:
It is a standalone.  The guy used to be coneected to Wake Forest University's network..He graduated and gets to keep the computer.

well im clueless..... such problems can be easily solved by the repair install...... but this has failed also !!
So we have to go with the fresh install..... having data on the drive which is required to be backed up ??

is is like that dialog box which asks your for the username and password ??
can you bypass by hittin Esc key,or what happens when you hit Ctrl+alt+del keys twice ??

belecad337Author Commented:
If hit escape it goes back to the screen which says hit ctrl-alt-delte to begin.

If hit ctrl-alt-delete twice, nothing happens, it just stays on same screen.

He does need data if it is possible to retrieve

Thanks
