Script Debugger Problem with IE6 and Server 2003

I am running Windows Server 2003 and IE 6.0.3790
Whenever I enounter a Javascript error, I get the error triangle at the bottom left of my browser page but the debugger does not offer to come up.  I have script debugging enabled and the IIS server and client debugging flags active.  Double-clicking the error indicator in the lower left brings up an inadeqate summary.

I placed a "debugger" linein my javascript and this does bring up the debugger but there is no code displayed to step through.  Also, if I choose the file manually, it simply complains that there is "no source".

The page largely runs and has a great deal of JavaScript in it.  The page is able to run even with the error.

What must happen to get an option to run the debugger automatically upon encountering an error with code to step through?

Unclear if this tool will help you on the Server side, but 'just in case' it helps link follows:

Also unclear about any service packs applied to your environment.  Within IE - tools - internet options - general - temporary internet files - settings - View Objects .... anything shown as unknown or damaged?  Any such entries found, please delete and close IE, reopen to test.  Assume you've cleared cache and history files, and have tried setting IE to defaults.

There are no unknown objects, just Java and Shockwave.  The temp files have been cleared.  I can get the debugger to open.  But it opens with a blank screen.  Thereis no child window with  code.

Since I'm running server 2003, there are no SPs to apply.  I am in an office filled with developers and none of us can figure this out.  I am debugging using alert statements but it certainly would be nice to have a real debugger.

Not sure this will get you what you need, but off to work, and posting in the hopes it sheds some light, until others step in with more specifics for your environment.... Found many debugger hits for Windows 2003 Server; HW and others, but really unclear as to what you specifically need.

I reinstalled the debugger from your link above and applied all critical updates.  The only affect so far is the debugger window does not come at all automatically.  The settings in IE have remained as I left them.  BTW, there were 10 updates I had not installed.  It's good I got around to that.

The problem may be the complexity of the page.  There is also quite a bit server and client side scripting, too.  It consists of a parent with two includes, two i-frames, two JS files, and each i-frame has two includes.  Perhaps the debugger does not know where to enter the code.

I will accept your answers because I feel this is a problem that is impossible for anyone to shoot remotely and likely is too dependant on the code I am debugging.

Wonder if it's a problem with jscript...  also perhaps this will help some.

Windows Script provides two script engines, Visual Basic® Scripting Edition and Microsoft JScript®, which can be embedded into Windows Applications. It also provides an extensive array of supporting technologies that makes it easier for script users to script Windows applications
