"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This looks similar to some issues like I've encountered before. When running Arcserve 6.0 and trying to restore we got errors like E3801,invalid file header. We tried restoring the tape with different Arcserve versions and on different plattforms but nothing helped.
What we found was a demo program from that helped.

MMPC or Media Merge seems to take any tape, any format and have the ability to restore it without problems. This solved the problem we've had for about 3 months.
Try this, you might be just as lucky as we were,

Good luck, I hope it helps.
