STP question

I have two switches connected via crossover cable in my home lab (2924XLs). I disabled STP on both of them and everything is working fine. Is this because I barely have any traffic?  I thought I would get a loop. Wanted to see what happens.
Thanks

ps:
Just did a sh log. The port that connects both switches is flapping. Is that a sign?

You'll only get a loop if you have more than one connection betwen switches, llike:
S  --- S
W     W
I       I
T      T
C     C
H----H

Connection S---S and connection H---H could create a loop. Spanning tree will set one link to blocking, one link to forwarding. Break the forwading link and the blocking link will begin forwarding (after several seconds).

If you only have a single uplink between switches, then Spanning Tree literally has no function.

If the two switches are connected with a single cable, you don't have a loop so spanning-tree isn't neccessary. Now if you connect a second crossover between the two switches...

Just wait for a broadcast frame! ;-)
