HP 3320 Scanner\Printer and XP

I have a machine upon which a clean install of XP SP1  was installed (imaged).  The HP 3320 scanner\printer  worked with Windows 98.  The machine was imaged a couple of months back with XP and the HP Multi-function printer printed and copied.  I don't know if the scanning function was tested then or not.  The scanning function does not work now.  Pressing scan now on the printer control panel results in a messase " not setup on pc".  Trying to scan via PaperPort software results in the error "No twain device found".  The printer can print and I removed it from Device manager and reinstalled in with the latest HP PCL 6 drivers.  It is in device manager as a IEEE 1240 (maybe wrong number?) device.  It is connected to LPT1 with a 25 pin parrallel cable.  It also has a connection for a USB cable, which I do not have.

Are there seperate driver for the scanning portion of this Multi-Function Printer (MFP, Take a guess at what I'm calling it!)?  The machine had SP 2 on it, so I removed it, and that made no difference.  The computer cannot communicate with the scanner and the scanner does not communicate with the printer.

How do I troubleshoot scanner connectivity on XP?  How do I troubleshoot Twain drivers?  Can I remove and readd Twain drivers?  Where would I find them?

I did indeed down load the HP PCL 6 drivers for the printer and it prints fine.  It won't talk to the scanner.  Like the troubleshooting document said  I set the LPT1 port from ECP, to AT, back to ECP, then EPP, none of which worked.  Tries renaming the c:\windows\twain_32 directory to .old and reinstalled the paper port scanner software, and it still could not talk to the scanner.  I brought in a USB cable from my home printer, and that did not help either.  I'm kinda stuck at this point.  Any other tips?
Here was the solution:

Deleted all printers. (including network printers)
Deleted all network cards. (There was a funky scanner\printernetwork driver installed as this printer scanner can be shared over the network)
Deleted all scanning software, both H.P. and Paperport.
Disconnected printer cable from printer and lpt1.

Brought up computer clean with no printers and no connection to printer.
Powered down computer.

Reconnected HP 3320 printer scanner.
Reinstalled HP scanning software.
Tested scanner. Worked.
Reboot computer.
Retested scanner. Still worked.

Reinstalled Paper Port scanning software.
Retested, still worked.

Reinstalled NIC drivers,
Rebooted.

Reinstalled Network printers.
Retested scanner, still worked.

Refund points, I solved it myself.
If you don't give them back to me, then give them to SheharyaarSaahil  because I used a couple of tips from the HP site.  They alone did not solve the problem, but they helped.
i will try my best next time to improve my help a little more..... =)
