Outlook XP send button won't work with "send as attachment" from Word.

Outlook Xp's send button won't work, when from within Microsoft Word or Excel I choose send as attachment. It opens Outlook just fine with the document attached but when I click send to sent the document. It does nothing. I can click send over and over but it won't send the e-mail. But if I open Outlook and attach the document manually it works fine.  What's the deal?  I searched Microsofts Support and couldn't find a thing. So I'm hoping someone over here will know. Thanks.
